Human approval patterns for autonomous operations

An approval is most useful when a reviewer can understand the evidence, proposed action and consequences.

Fynite editorial guide · Illustrative patterns, not deployment documentation.

01

Place review at the action boundary

Gather evidence and prepare a recommendation before requesting approval. Do not perform the sensitive action first and ask for confirmation afterward.

02

Give the reviewer context

Show the relevant policy, evidence references, proposed system action and expected impact. Avoid exposing hidden reasoning traces.

03

Handle changed conditions

Invalidate or re-evaluate approval when the underlying evidence or proposed action changes. Scope authorization to a specific request.

04

Record the decision

Retain reviewer identity, timestamp, authorized action and verified result. Define escalation paths for rejected or overdue reviews.

Application

Capture supplier documents and the business request.

Illustrative vendor onboarding model. Enterprise processes can combine both approaches.

Buyer review checklist

  • Approval occurs before action
  • Evidence and policy visible
  • Authorization scoped to the request
  • Rejection and expiry handled
